In our fast-paced, overstimulated world, true rest can feel out of reach. But God offers us a deeper kind of rest—one that nourishes our souls and brings peace to our weary hearts. In this Rest For Your Soul blog series, we’ll explore spiritual practices that help us slow down, reconnect with God, and receive His presence.
We begin with one of the most beautiful and underrated practices in Christian spirituality: Soaking.
What is Soaking?
Soaking is the intentional act of resting in God’s presence—quietly and expectantly—allowing Him to minister to your spirit. Unlike prayer or worship where we speak or sing, soaking is about being still and receiving. It’s about dwelling in the presence of the Almighty, letting His love, peace, and healing wash over you.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28:"Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Soaking helps us answer that invitation.
How to Soak in God's Presence
Here’s a simple guide to get started:
Create a quiet space.Find a peaceful environment where you can sit or lie down without distractions.
Invite the Holy Spirit.Whisper a short prayer: “Holy Spirit, I invite You here. I want to rest in Your love.”
Play soaking worship music.Gentle, instrumental or soft vocal worship music sets the atmosphere. (See YouTube suggestions below.)
Be still.Don’t try to pray or analyze. Simply rest. Breathe deeply. Focus your heart on Jesus.
Listen.Be open to impressions, scriptures, visions, or just stillness. Soaking is about being with God.
Benefits of Soaking

Many people report feeling lighter, calmer, and more connected to God's love after even 10–20 minutes of soaking.

Final Thoughts
If your soul has been crying out for stillness, start with soaking. It may feel unfamiliar at first, but with consistency, you’ll find it becomes a sacred place of encounter with God. Remember—He’s not waiting for you to perform; He’s waiting for you to come and rest.
Let this be the beginning of your journey to soul-deep rest.
